Electric Brakes are a valuable alternative to current brake drums. Electric Brakes are the most common braking system installed on trailers. Electronic Brakes require a controller which is installed into the vehicle which allows for electricity to be transmitted correctly to ensure braking happens. There is a magnet located inside of the backing plate which has 2 conductor wires which tape directly into the trailer wiring. When electricity is on, it magnetizes the brake magnet, this magnet is attracted to the drum face, when it contacts this area the friction causes it to rotate which moves the actuating arms which then pushes the shoes out against the drum causing the wheel to stop spinning. The shoes will have a special brake pad material on them that resist the heat caused by the friction. Electric Braking is smooth and jerk less, this is no shock or jerk that can be associated to the e-brakes unlink normal hydraulic brakes.
