Yooperlite is a syenite rock rich in fluorescent sodalite, meaning it glows with vibrant orange, red, and yellow colors under ultraviolet (UV) light. The name is a portmanteau of "Yooper," a nickname for people from Michigan's Upper Peninsula where it's primarily found, and "lite," referring to the sodalite content. Discovered in 2018 by Erik Rintamaki, it was once believed to be exclusive to Michigan's Lake Superior shores, though it has also been found in Canada and China.
