HISTORY ASPECTS:
HMS Ajax was a Leander-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy, commissioned in 1935. The ship gained fame early in its career for its role in the Battle of the River Plate in December 1939, one of the first major naval engagements of World War II. Alongside two other Royal Navy cruisers, HMS Exeter and HMS Achilles, Ajax confronted the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee off the coast of Uruguay. Despite being outgunned by the much larger German ship, Ajax and its allies successfully forced Graf Spee to retreat to the port of Montevideo
