A Work of Art in Sterling and Enamel, this brooch has it all: Great Condition, Fine and Detailed Workmanship, Incredibly Charming Subject and RARE!! A photo of my brooch was used in the book Northern Lights, The Beauty of the Forgotten Scandinavian Enamel Jewelry Artisans, Lois and Dwight Olson, leading off Chapter 37 on Volmer Bahner.
Some of the most interesting figurative Scandinavian jewelry was inspired by the wealth of history, lore and fairy tales of those countries. This piece, by Danish silver artist Volmer Bahner, comes from a story by Denmark's beloved Hans Christian Andersen, the Shepherdess and the Chimney-Sweep. The characters were china figurines who were in love. Fearing she would be forced to marry an ugly wooden satyr, they tried to elope.
