Chinese snuff bottle. Snuff bottles were used to hold powdered tobacco, which was inhaled through the nose. They were popular in China during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) when smoking tobacco was outlawed.
The bottle is an "inside-painted" glass snuff bottle, a technique where the artist paints a miniature scene on the inside of the bottle.
These bottles were considered status symbols and are now highly collectible art objects.
